Memorial Day

Found this post that tells us a lot about Memorial Day. http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/

Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday. Please remember our service men who are unable to be with their families this holiday. As for me, I am going to Kelly's (my daughter-in-law) and I am cooking a big fried chicken dinner with potato salad, fresh green beans, fresh corn on the cob, tomatoes and my homemade biscuits and corn bread. Wendy, my daughter, and her family will be there and so will Nick , one of my older grand kids. He is staying with Kelly right now and has been a big help to her. I am hoping that Kinny, Brian's best friend, will be able to come over. He was in the marines and served 2 tours in Iraq.

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

Well, I am really excited about the blog now. Just talked to my sister Sandy in Georgia. She saw it and loved it. Also got an email from Brian who said it is really cool. Although he gave me some corrections that I will have to go back and make in my earlier blogs.

Which I will do as soon as possible. Right now though, Alyssa is patiently waiting for me to fix her hair. She went and got out the combs, hair brushes, hair bows, ponytail holders and a mirror. When I see all that laying on the couch, I know she is ready to have her hair done. It is beautiful...really long and blonde. It is just like Wendy's hair was when she was that age. I can remember sitting on the bed and brushing her hair at night....I always tried to brush it at least as many times as they said you should brush your hair at night. Was it 100? I don't think anybody does that anymore.

Here are Brian's corrections to my previous posts: Will correct as soon as possible:

The dog belongs to a very high ranking Iraqi General.

I do fly everywhere but never in Apaches.

The reporter was nic robertson.

but it's really cool, Thanks Mom

I can't show his storyboards for some reason but he really has some cool ones. I am really proud of him. He is doing a great job. His Papa would be tickled pink for sure!

Zaine Was A Superstar

This was Zaine’s second year to play soccer. He did enjoy it last year, but was not quite as into it as he is this year. Up until a couple of weeks ago he had not made a goal. He asked me to come to his game that week (May 2) so I went. I had not gone to any of his games so far this year. He told me he was gonna score a goal today. He scored 2 goals! He was so proud. And luckily enough Wendy happened to be video taping him when he made his first goal. I also got some pretty good still pics of him playing. He was really pumped and excited. I was so glad I went to that game. Then the following week (May 6) only Aaron went with him to the soccer game. Zaine scored 4 goals!!! Aaron said Zaine was so excited, he looked at his dad and put his arm and fist up and brought it down with a Yeah! Aaron said he was so proud he actually started crying. Then yesterday (May16) was his last game for the season. Once again he lead in scoring and even blocked a score for the other team and brought it all the way back to score for his team.

Getting Late

Well it is getting late. I have a lot more to add. Will do my best to add more tomorrow.

Brian Loves Dogs

This was taken by another reporter with Brian. Brian has always loved dogs. His dog at home, Lady, really misses him. When she sees and hears Brian on the cam phone on the comupter she goes crazy! This little puppy belonged to a high ranking Iraqi General. Cute puppy, huh? (the dog not Brian...LOL) (sorry, just had to say it again....too good an opportunity to pass up...lol.)

Brian Onboard Helicopter

This picture was taken by a CNN photojournalist when Brian was covering CNN news reporter Nic Robertson on his trip to Mosul. I bet all those cameras get heavy around his neck.

Brian's Ride

Brian usually travels by helicopter when he is covering a story. Most of the time he is going to out of the way places on mountains and hillsides or places just out in the middle of nowhere. Of course he does not travel in the Apache Helicopters. But this is a great pic of him in front of one. Pretty cool looking bird, huh? (The copter, not Brian..LOL)

My Son

My son Brian is a photojournalist with the 145 MPAD (Mobile Public Affairs Department) in the Army National Guard.
